23Thus says the LORD, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; 24but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD. Jeremiah 9:23, 24
First and foremost, I must thank my Pastor for quoting this verse in todays message. It struck me that people are the same now as in Jeremiah's day; boasters, putting their trust in their own strength, abilities and riches. I had a roughish gallery of examples to choose from, your list would differ, but the point is: trusting in your own wisdom, strength and riches rather than trusting in God is Foolish with a capital F. In the verses above the Lord says, "Let not" to the worldly, which to me means: "You've got nothing to boast about, unless your boast is that you know Me."
By the way, I'm not presuming that those pictured above do not know God-I have no idea. But they do work as examples of those who are presumed to be wise, strong and rich. And I did choose that picture of President Obama because he is pointing to the left.
