I Hold This Truth To Be Self Evident
Still not going political, really. Just an observation which reminds me of one of my greatest failures that I allegedly 'won'.
High school theatrics. Putting on "The Thurber Carnival" ala James Thurber whom I still read on occasion.
There's a soliloquy that runs about ten minutes, and at tryouts I couldn't believe how my castmates stunk up the place. Like a moron, I did the best I could... but I had more enthusiasm than talent.
Oh, I 'won' the part...and stunk up the stage every night.
I know, I know-the Democratic field is strong, every one of them a champion of the common pee-pul.
I think they are all sandbagging. Playing to lose so that History doesn't record them as another Millard Fillmore. Don't know him? My point.

Notice, please, that in my post I denigrate no candidate, cast no mud or aspersions on any Democrat.
One of my Conservative friends is absolutely certain that Mrs. Clinton has the nomination sewn up, if I may use such a metaphor.
Today Joe Biden bowed out, but I never thought he was IN.
Spitballing/just tossing ideas out there into the ether, I think that the Dems MIGHT attempt to manufacture their own Ronald Reagan by showering love, adoration and promises of glory on one of their shining Hollywood stars.
"If we can only draft ____________ __________ to run, he (or she) could waltz all over the competition, and we won't have to deal with promises made or broken to Bernie Sanders or Hillary. Clean slate."
Think I'll go watch "Duck Soup" again.
Have anyone in particular in mind?
HRC and Bill have wanted this so bad they could taste it ever since he left office. Her only serious competition right now is Sanders, and I don't see a 74-year-old socialist getting the nod. So unless someone comes completely out of left field, and it's getting pretty late in the day for that, I do believe it will be HRC.
And, make no mistake, she won't be anyone's pushover. She is smart, disciplined, experienced, and hard-working, and she wants it more than enough to slog through the long campaign. I don't know if she'll win -- some of the GOP candidates scare me plenty -- but she'll give it her all.
"Have anyone in particular in mind?"
Nope.
The evil nature of politics makes me think that Hilclinton's "opposition research" inherited from Bill may keep any competitive opponents from pushing their way into the limelight and America's hearts.
Also, as I mentioned in the post, I don't think anyone on the Democratic side wants to sit in the Oval office just after President Obama has left-as President Obama may not go quietly into retirement.
Things will quite probably get much worse in the next few years, and I think that the Dems may sandbag this election, pretend to run just to keep the base mollified, all the while secretly cheering a Republican win so that they can j'accuse the next President of stinking up the place.
Which is why I really have come to despise politics.
I know that you dis-believe, but I and my friends are looking for the Lord to return and set up His Kingdom. No more liars, no more cheats, no more politics.
On "MY" side, I don't see anyone yet who all that I want in a President, but Carson and Cruz have piqued my interest more than any others. It's a long way off yet, Lu, so go ahead and start stumping for Rainn Wilson to be drafted by your party. He's a natural.
Who? (Seriously, I never heard of Rainn Wilson.)
I'm not surprised you like Cruz. It astounds me that Carson is the frontrunner right now. The man is stark raving loony, he cannot give a coherent explanation of any of his policy positions or his tax plan (or much of anything else), and he's been known to shill for a dubious business enterprise.
Blaming the party in power for everything that goes wrong has been the consolation of opposition parties since time began. With the divided government we have now, opportunities abound for both sides, which might partially explain why the public is so sour on government in general and Congress in particular.
Are you suggesting that Obama is planning a coup?
I had an excellent rebuttal/answer ready for the printers (read:me hitting the 'publish your comment' button)...and the phone rang. An hour plus later I come back and hit the button, not realizing that it had timed out. Ah well.
Here's an article about a lefty writing a book critical of Mrs. Clinton:
http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/cover-forthcoming-hillary-clinton-book-courts-controversy
as for
"Are you suggesting that Obama is planning a coup?"
Nope. I suggest that President Obama lacks the good grace to leave the spotlight voluntarily. If a Republican wins, he will become "Number One Critical Citizen", dogging him or her on every issue for as long as media keeps showing up.
I think he would do the same for Mrs. Clinton. You know my (wrong) record on political predictions...but I think I could be elected President before Hilary ever makes it. I'm more likable, and haven't been dodging Reality for the past 30 years.
Rainn Wilson is an adherent of the Baha'i faith, so he has the perfect 'Religious cred' for a Democrat. And he's a pretty good actor, even though his last TV show stunk up the Fox network. His character was an unlikable reprobate so, again...
Ex-presidents do have a certain amount of influence if they choose to use it. Most of them seem to prefer a lower profile. It is probably the most exhausting job in the world. I recall seeing George H.W. Bush about eight months after he left office, looking tanned and rested and at least ten years younger than when I'd last seen him on TV. (We were on the same plane. My husband and I were in cattle class and he was in first along with about 20 Secret Service agents, but we caught a few glimpses.) Obama might go teach law somewhere and write books, or he might help found a charity, or he might want to be appointed ambassador to somewhere, or to the Supreme Court. (He can't serve in the Cabinet because every Cabinet post is in the line of presidential succession.) I don't see him being constantly in the new president's face, but I don't have such a great track record either.
The last poll I heard about had HRC in hypothetical matchups beating every GOP candidate except... Ben Carson. The world has gone mad.
Sorry, I completely scrambled that. We and the Secret Service agents were in cattle class, H.W. and Barbara were in first.
I doubt that Ben Carson will be the nominee. lately it seems that some quasi-Conservative is put up by the Repub leaders, so I expect it will be someone more in line with the leadership, forced upon us in cattle class to accept or stay home.
"The world has gone mad."
I would replace 'has gone' with 'is'. You've heard me prattle on about the concept of the cosmos or kosmos-the world environment/system which is at odds with God. It is crazy. And has an expiration date which seems to be approaching on the hurry.
Hey, you got one right! Carson's numbers have plummeted recently, and since he seems unable to cure his own foot-in-mouth disease, I wouldn't be surprised if that continued. The chief beneficiary seems to be... Donald Trump. Amazing. Ted Cruz also seems to be picking up some support.
From my standpoint either Cruz or Trump is less scary than Rubio, whom the punditocracy seems to regard as moderate, heaven help us. (Have you seen his tax plan? It'll be great once he repeals the laws of arithmetic.)
"I will vote for anyone who can move us away from the failed policies of the current administration."
There! A sentence that either party can embrace, depending on who sits in the Oval.
Cruz has some good things going for him, Carson is fine...the rest of the also-rans can run away right now for all I care.
"Carson's numbers have plummeted recently" cling to whatever hope you have, Lu-numbers this year mean exactly nothing. Until a few dunderheads drop out, the field is too fluid to measure support for one against another. In May/June 2016 the numbers will begin to matter.
