Foolish Faith Is Quicksilver Sneaky Fast

The other day, during a discussion on another blog about the deviousness of Mankind, a nice lady named Denise quoted a verse which resonated for us:
"5 Thus says the LORD,
“Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind
And makes flesh his strength,
And whose heart turns away from the LORD."
Jeremiah 17:5

The passage deals with the apostasy of Judah in Jeremiah's time, but mankind is universal. This verse is right above the better known passage:

"9 “The heart is more deceitful than all else
And is desperately sick;
Who can understand it?
10 “I, the LORD, search the heart,
I test the mind,
Even to give to each man according to his ways,
According to the results of his deeds."

“Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind
And makes flesh his strength,"--does that remind you of anyone? Of several billion anyones?
For one prominent example, think about Al Gore. Is he trusting that God has everything in hand, or is he trusting in mankind to solve what he considers to be “problems”?
Easy answer, right?
The only way that you can worry about anything is to disbelieve God.

Denise also quoted from Psalm 20:7
“7 Some boast in chariots and some in horses,
But we will boast in the name of the LORD, our God.”

Nowadays, some boast/trust in mandates and legislation, some trust that mankind can somehow “FIX” a single one of the problems he causes. Talk about foolish faith!
I’ll stick with God, Who has a proven track record going back farther than you can count. Amen.
